18. Passo Furcia - Lake Braies

Start from the Berghotel by car to the entrance to the Braies Valley (approx. 25 min.). On the cycle path in the direction of Brunico, in Valdaora in the direction of Passo Furcia. Take the side road towards the valley station of the cable car to Plan de Corones, straight across the car park and continue into the valley along the Furcia River. Then turn right back to the Passo Furcia road and follow it up to the pass. Turn left there, go under the lift and continue down towards San Vigilio. Turn off towards Fojedöra and follow the gravel road in the forest up the increasingly steep valley. There you have to push for about 30 minutes. Once you reach the top, you have earned a rest and can enjoy the beautiful view. From the “Kreuzjoch”, a wonderful, flat trail (no. 24) leads over into the Val de Lersc. Caution is advised on some exposed sections (danger of falling), after a nice flat section turn left onto a steep road, following trail no. 25 to Lake Braies. The first 150 metres are very steep. After that, the path flattens out again and becomes easy to ride. You then cross a large scree field before reaching the green valley floor on a beautiful trail at the “Alte Kaser”. From here, another track leads to the beautifully situated Lake Braies. Turn left along the shore of the lake to the Hotel Pragser Wildsee and head out of the valley on an initially rooty forest trail. This path becomes increasingly better. You reach the tarmac road that leads to Ferrara and back to the starting point.
